Master Adobe's flagship imaging application by learning expert techniques from professional designers in this hands-on course. Photoshop was pivotal to the birth of desktop publishing and computer-based image manipulation in the 1980s. In recent versions, the program has become both easier to use and significantly more powerful, putting it within reach of new users while remaining the tool of choice for serious graphics professionals working with print, web or video.

Photoshop box

All the major elements of the application will be covered during the course and some of the more advanced (and fun features) will be looked at if time permits. Above all we try and ensure this course is enjoyable while we expose students to the creative pleasures that this powerful program offers. Please note: Photoshop is only part of a print (or screen-based) workflow - albeit a very important one. If you're looking to produce brochures or printed materials, consider InDesign or our Creative Suite Complete course instead of (or as well as) this one.

Assumed knowledge

This course will assume a reasonable level of confidence with either the Windows or Mac interface including menus, palettes and fonts. Some exposure to computer graphics principles will be an advantage but beginners are welcome to attend.

What you will learn

This course will provide you with sufficient knowledge to competently work with Adobe Photoshop. The course will begin with imaging fundamentals, ensuring students develop good habits and workflow techniques before we move onto techniques which unlock the product's more advanced features. While we try not to overwhelm students with this course, we don't shy away from important techniques and features such as layers, masks, selections and channels.

We also look at basic colour theory, as required to develop an understanding of colour balancing and channel adjustments. In all, this is a comprehensive course and students will find the subject matter covered in sufficient detail to develop confidence and become productive as quickly as possible.
