About this course

Adobe Illustrator is the definitive application for creating professional drawings, logos and other vector-based objects and documents.

While bitmap applications such as Photoshop allow painting, filtering and photographic enhancement, Illustrator is the tool of choice for Web or print designers wishing to create logos, line art, and 2 dimensional objects with unparalleled precision. Illustrator also allows you to trace bitmap images to create scalable vector graphics from drawings or photographs.

Assumed knowledge

A basic understanding of graphic design principles will be assumed along with some exposure to Web or print publishing. Reasonable computer competence with either Mac or Windows will also be assumed.

Working with Type

• Adding type to a document
• Sampling type
• Changing the character size
• Reshaping text with an envelope
• Creating columns of type
• Changing character attributes of placed text
• Changing paragraph attributes
• Adjusting the text flow
• Wrapping type around a graphic
• Typing along a path

Working with Layers

• Creating, moving, locking and viewing layers
• Moving objects and layers
• Pasting layers
• Creating clipping masks
• Merging layers
• Applying appearance attributes to layers
